Daybreakers- 2010

Daybreakers -2009

This is a great vampire movie, it is unique.

The year is 2019. It has been 10 years since the outbreak of a plague that has turned almost every human into a vampire. We begin the film with a shot of a newspaper headline saying that the German blood substitute has failed. Two vampires are discussing the current situation in their society, which is a shortage of blood.

Ten years after a plague turns most of the world's population into vampires, a critical blood shortage causes panic and gruesome mutations among the undead.

The "Bromley Marks Corp" has a stock of humans that can be taken out and used to make blood. This is like "The Matrix," where humans in cocoons make bioelectricity to power the machines.

Edward (Ethan Hawke), a vampire hematologist, tries to develop a blood substitute when he meets Lionel "Elvis" (Willem Dafoe) and Audrey (Claudia Karvan), two fugitive humans who claim to have a possible cure. Edward joins them in the hope of perfecting the cure before it's too late. They found a cure. I won't say which one, so as not to spoil the surprise of the film.  But Ethan finds out that Charles Bromley, the owner of the corporation, didn't want a "substitute" for blood or a cure.

Since sunlight is deadly to vampires, underground passages and UV-filtered cars are built for safe travel, while the few free humans travel by day, hiding in open spaces,

Daybreakers is an international co-production between Australia and the United States. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009. It was released in the United Kingdom on January 6th 2010 and in North America on January 8th. The movie made over $50 million worldwide and got mixed reviews.
