Evil Dead Franchise

Evil Dead is an American comedy horror franchise created by Sam Raimi consisting of five feature films and a television series. The series originally revolves around the grimoire the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text that wreaks havoc upon a group of cabin inhabitants in a wooded area in Tennessee.

The film franchise was resurrected in 2013 with Evil Dead, both a reboot and a loose continuation of the series directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues.

A fifth film in the franchise, titled Evil Dead Rise, was theatrically released on April 21, 2023, with Lee Cronin serving as writer and director, Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan starring as sisters Ellie and Beth Bixler.

Movies:

1981: The Evil Dead.

1987: Evil Dead II.

1993: Army of Darkness.

2013: Evil Dead.

2023: Evil Dead Rise.

A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. This one has liters and liters of blood.

Fear- 2023

A weekend vacation turns sinister when a group of friends must confront their worst fears one by one.

This is a film that mixes horror, paranormal and folk horror, as the characters face their worst fears, whether monstrous creatures, spirits, etc. Some scenes have blood, strong deaths, and also scenes of spiritual possession.

The First Omen -2024

This is another film in which a possessed young woman gives birth to a baby who is the devil incarnate, but the FX are good.

A young American woman is sent to Rome to serve the church, but she encounters darkness that makes her question her faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that aims to bring about the birth of evil in its purest form.

Imaginary- 2024

Blumhouse, the genre-defining mastermind behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S and M3GAN, has created this original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends. It begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lurking beneath?

When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) returns to her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice plays games with Chauncey that start out playful and become more sinister.

As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be. I don't intend to tell the whole story (no spoilers), but in the end it feels like the Poltergeist movies, where they go to another spiritual dimension. There are some twists at the end.

Destroy All Neighbors -2024

Destroy All Neighbors is a comedy-horror film with great FX, a fun premise, and nice deaths.

An exuberant Gumtree-sploitation horror-comedy that plays like Pacific Heights on peyote will make you sympathize with struggling prog-rock musician William. The neighbour from hell comes in the form of Vlad, an indestructible goblin-y character, played beneath layers of latex by Alex Winter, who drags William to hell. A blast, not least for the cameo from Kumail Nanjiani as 'Smelting Refinery Guard'.

Late Night with The Devil- 2023

Late Night with the Devil is a creepy 2023 found footage horror film written, directed and edited by Cameron and Colin Cairnes. The film features David Dastmalchian as the host of a 1970s talk show, who on Halloween night extends an invitation to a girl who is believed to be possessed in order to enhance the show ratings.

This movie is nothing like I have seen before. The frontman is terrific and a sight for sore eyes.

Night Swim- 2024

night swim

A baseball player, Ray (Wyatt Russell) forced into early retirement moves into a new family home with a water therapy-friendly pool. All is going well until, unavoidably, the pool turns out to be covered in spectral creatures. Bryce McGuire makes a short horror movie that taps into our primal fear of and attraction to water. He gets great performances from Russell and The Banshees of Kerry Condon as the partner who prays it is not her turn to check the chlorine levels.
