Evil Dead Franchise

Evil Dead is an American comedy horror franchise created by Sam Raimi consisting of five feature films and a television series. The series originally revolves around the grimoire the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text that wreaks havoc upon a group of cabin inhabitants in a wooded area in Tennessee.

The film franchise was resurrected in 2013 with Evil Dead, both a reboot and a loose continuation of the series directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues.

A fifth film in the franchise, titled Evil Dead Rise, was theatrically released on April 21, 2023, with Lee Cronin serving as writer and director, Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan starring as sisters Ellie and Beth Bixler.

Movies:

1981: The Evil Dead.

1987: Evil Dead II.

1993: Army of Darkness.

2013: Evil Dead.

2023: Evil Dead Rise.

A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. This one has liters and liters of blood.

Fear- 2023

A weekend vacation turns sinister when a group of friends must confront their worst fears one by one.

This is a film that mixes horror, paranormal and folk horror, as the characters face their worst fears, whether monstrous creatures, spirits, etc. Some scenes have blood, strong deaths, and also scenes of spiritual possession.

Imaginary- 2024

Blumhouse, the genre-defining mastermind behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S and M3GAN, has created this original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends. It begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lurking beneath?

When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) returns to her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice plays games with Chauncey that start out playful and become more sinister.

As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be. I don't intend to tell the whole story (no spoilers), but in the end it feels like the Poltergeist movies, where they go to another spiritual dimension. There are some twists at the end.

"The Offering" - 2023

the offering

Movie directed by Oliver Park and Les Weldon, released in January 2023.
It surprised me positively, the story evolves and has surprises.
The Offering involves a Hassidic community. A man (Yosille) since he lost his wife, decided to study occultism, goetia, the esoteric kabbalah and invoke an archangel in an attempt to recover his wife.
But the ritual went wrong and his own daughter died (Sarah).

The man then tries to be possessed by the female demon Abyzou and imprison her in his body, by sticking a consecrated dagger in his chest, and using an amulet.
He made it and died this way. Meanwhile, the body goes to a mortuary.
Arthur (Nick Blood) and his pregnant wife, go to Arthur's father's house, owner of that funeral home, and he helps to autopsy the body, it is then that the demon Abyzou will escape.
All through the movie there are scenes of suspense and the spirit of the girl (Sarah) is seen, and at other times the demon Abyzou.
The ending is unexpected and surprising, I can tell that it is not a happy ending.

Abyzou in folklore, is a female demon that abducts children and causes deaths during pregnancy. The name came from Akkadian Apsu or Sumerian Abzu.

Amityville: The Awakening. 2017

amityville awakening

There are many movies based on the Amityville incident, but I prefer the 2017 "Amityville: The Awakening" because it has a better story, better effects, and Bella Thorne is so sexy.

This great movie was written and directed by Franck Khalfoun.

When some footage from 1976 is found, the case of the haunted house in Amityville is reopened. Belle, the younger sister, and her comatose twin brother move into their mother's house in order to save money for the sick children treatment. But when strange things start to happen, like her brother's miraculous recovery, Belle starts to think that her mother isn't telling her the whole truth about where they live.

By the way, Mckenna Grace (Juliet) acted as a young version of Sabrina on "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."

The Skeleton Key -2005

the skeleton key

"The Skeleton Key" is a 2005 American Southern Gothic supernatural horror film directed by Iain Softley and written by Ehren Kruger. It stars Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands, John Hurt, Peter Sarsgaard, and Joy Bryant. The story is about a New Orleans hospice nurse who starts a job at a Terrebonne Parish plantation home and becomes involved in a supernatural mystery about the house, its former inhabitants, and Voodoo rituals and spells that took place.

Nurse Caroline Ellis quits her job to take care of elderly Ben Devereux who had a stroke and can't talk. When she reaches Bens house in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, she encounters his wife Violet, who is suspicious and creepy. Caroline is convinced by the family's lawyer, Luke Marshall. She goes to the attic and finds a secret room full of spells, hair, and bones used to practice Hoodoo, but Violet says she has never seen this secret room. Caroline thinks Violet has put a spell on Ben, so she wants to help him.

She understands that Voodoo cannot hurt someone who does not believe in it. Will Caroline be able to save Ben, or will she be the one who needs saving?

Mama Cecile and Papa Justify are the spirits of 1900's renowned Hoodoo practitioners and the main antagonists of the movie. The end is surprising.

I Spit on Your Grave -Franchise

I spit on your grave

"I Spit on Your Grave" is an American rape and revenge film series that comprises two films written and directed by Meir Zarchi and three remake films, each installment following a woman who exacts revenge on each of her tormentors after four men gang rape and leave her for dead. The original 1978 film has gained a large cult following. Jennifer Hills (portrayed by Camille Keaton and Sarah Butler) is the only character to appear in every film, with the exception of the 2013 film "I Spit on Your Grave 2".

The movie is filled with incredible and touching action, and the title is strong, meaning "I Spit on Your Grave."

Jennifer (Sarah Butler) is a writer who lives in an isolated cabin in the country to work on her latest novel. A gang of local thugs rape and torture her, then leave her for dead, before the peace and quiet is shattered. But she returns to seek revenge, trapping the men one by one. Jennifer inflicts pain on her attackers with a ferocity that exceeds her own ordeal.

The deaths are incredible, it reminds me of the "Saw" movies.

1978- "I Spit on Your Grave".

2010- "I Spit on Your Grave" (remake).

2013- "I Spit on Your Grave 2".

2015- "I Spit on Your Grave 3- Vengeance is Mine".

2019- "I Spit on Your Grave: Déjà Vu".

Primal- 2010

Primal, horror movie

"Primal" is an interesting horror movie, one that changes direction several times, resulting in a thrilling and fun watch that is marred by silly effects.

A group of young adult friends have travelled to the Australian wilderness to see some ancient cave paintings. The lead on this is Dace (Wil Traval), who is an anthropology student, while the rest are just happy to explore the wilderness and party hard.

When they arrive, they look at the paintings and wonder about the mysterious cave nearby. The usual drunken shenanigans occur after they set up camp. The character Mel (Krew Boylan) decides to skinny dip in a pond to discover she is covered in leeches. That night she starts to get ill. Firstly she has a fever, then her teeth fall out and her mouth oozes blood.

The next morning Mel has grown large sharp teeth and is behaving like an animal. She roars, jumps inhumanly, is super-strong, and also has no problem biting chunks out of her friends.

She's become a primal (animal-like) and begins to hunt down her friends, a mix of zombie girl and vampire strength.

Characters are scared that their friend might die, but they don't want to just accept that their friend is no more human.

Final Destination franchise

Final destination horror

Final Destination franchise

I love the "Final Destination" franchise because it is a funny horror and the deaths are so creepy. Movies can show us that we cannot trick death or escape from karma.

Everyone dies at some point, and it's a creepy and unthinkable death.

Final Destination is an American horror series that includes five films, two comic books, and nine novels. An unproduced script by Jeffrey Reddick, originally written for The "X-Files" television series, was distributed by New Line Cinema. The first movie was shown in the year 2000

The five films in the series are about a group of people who escape death after one person sees a premonition about a major disaster that is about to happen. Despite avoiding their foretold deaths, the survivors are killed one by one in bizarre accidents caused by an unseen force, creating complicated chains of cause and effect. The series is notable for its use of an antagonist that is not a stereotypical slasher or other physical being, but Death manifested, subtly manipulating circumstances in the environment with a design on claiming anyone who previously escaped their fated demise.

It appears that "Final Destination 6" will soon be coming to HBO Max, over 20 years after the original. Fans are once again anticipating what Death's design has in store this time.

2000- "Final Destination".

2003- "Final Destination 2".

2006- "Final Destination 3".

2009- "The Final Destination".

2011- "Final Destination 5".

Sixth film coming soon.

Saw franchise

Saw franchise horror

Saw franchise

"Saw" is a horror franchise created by Australian film makers James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

The franchise consists of nine feature films and additional media. The first eight films primarily revolve around the fictional serial killer John "Jigsaw" Kramer, while the ninth movie revolves around a copycat killer while still keeping continuity with the previous films. I'm a big fan of "Saw" movies.

The first movie, in 2004, was a pioneer because in addition to terror (deaths and blood) it introduced more intelligence, psychological thriller and a plot. All of the characters were related and this was gradually revealed, and anyone could have escaped the traps alive if they had helped each other. However, human nature is to save oneself, to think only of one's own ass. I believe that was the psychological lesson of the movies.

The suspense music (theme) also became famous and stayed in everyone's memory, as well as the puppet/puppet that rode a small tricycle. It was creepy. The ninth film, "Spiral," was released in 2021, with Chris Rock as the film's lead actor.

The franchise has grossed more than $1 billion from box office and retail sales.

2004- "Saw".

2005- "Saw II".

2006- "Saw III".

2007- "Saw IV".

2008- "Saw V".

2009- "Saw VI".

2010- "Saw 3D".

2017- "Jigsaw".

2021- "Spiral"

2023- "Saw X".

Saw X is an upcoming American horror film directed by Kevin Greutert and written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The film is the tenth installment overall in the Saw film series, and stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, and Michael Beach.

Drag me to Hell -2009

drag me to hell

Drag me to Hell -2009

One of the best movies I have ever seen.

A séance scene with a type of goat (identical to baphomet) and a surprising ending are  impressive, such also the graveyard scene.

Drag Me to Hell is a 2009 American supernatural horror movie directed and written by Sam Raimi. It stars Alison Lohman ( as Christine Brown), Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, David Paymer, and Adriana Barraza. Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) has a loving boyfriend (Justin Long) and a great job at a Los Angeles bank. But her heavenly life becomes hellish when, in an effort to impress her boss, she denies an old woman's (Sylvia Ganush) request for an extension on her home loan. Christine is cursed in retaliation, threatening her soul with eternal damnation. She wants a psychic to help her break the curse, but the price to save her soul may be more than she can pay.

The woman, Mrs Ganush, violently attacks Christine in the parking lot. She takes a button off Christine's coat and curses it. Later, Christine and her boyfriend Clay visit a fortune teller. They find out that Christine is now haunted by a dark spirit.

Christine tries to ask Ganush for forgiveness, but she discovers that she has died. A sacrifice may help appease the demon, suggests the fortune teller. Christine hesitantly sacrifices her cat kitten. Unfortunately, even that method fails. All hope seems lost when the possibility of banishing the entity via a séance delivers greater failure.

The story of the film is inspired by the British horror film 'Night of the Demon,' such as the similar-shaped demons and the three-day curse theme.

This movie won two awards at the 2009 Scream Awards and the 2010 Saturn Awards.
