Evil Dead Franchise

Evil Dead is an American comedy horror franchise created by Sam Raimi consisting of five feature films and a television series. The series originally revolves around the grimoire the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, an ancient Sumerian text that wreaks havoc upon a group of cabin inhabitants in a wooded area in Tennessee.

The film franchise was resurrected in 2013 with Evil Dead, both a reboot and a loose continuation of the series directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rodo Sayagues.

A fifth film in the franchise, titled Evil Dead Rise, was theatrically released on April 21, 2023, with Lee Cronin serving as writer and director, Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan starring as sisters Ellie and Beth Bixler.

Movies:

1981: The Evil Dead.

1987: Evil Dead II.

1993: Army of Darkness.

2013: Evil Dead.

2023: Evil Dead Rise.

A twisted tale of two estranged sisters whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons, thrusting them into a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable. This one has liters and liters of blood.

Fear- 2023

A weekend vacation turns sinister when a group of friends must confront their worst fears one by one.

This is a film that mixes horror, paranormal and folk horror, as the characters face their worst fears, whether monstrous creatures, spirits, etc. Some scenes have blood, strong deaths, and also scenes of spiritual possession.

The First Omen -2024

This is another film in which a possessed young woman gives birth to a baby who is the devil incarnate, but the FX are good.

A young American woman is sent to Rome to serve the church, but she encounters darkness that makes her question her faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that aims to bring about the birth of evil in its purest form.

Imaginary- 2024

Blumhouse, the genre-defining mastermind behind FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S and M3GAN, has created this original horror that taps into the innocence of imaginary friends. It begs the question: Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lurking beneath?

When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) returns to her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice plays games with Chauncey that start out playful and become more sinister.

As Alice's behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be. I don't intend to tell the whole story (no spoilers), but in the end it feels like the Poltergeist movies, where they go to another spiritual dimension. There are some twists at the end.

Late Night with The Devil- 2023

Late Night with the Devil is a creepy 2023 found footage horror film written, directed and edited by Cameron and Colin Cairnes. The film features David Dastmalchian as the host of a 1970s talk show, who on Halloween night extends an invitation to a girl who is believed to be possessed in order to enhance the show ratings.

This movie is nothing like I have seen before. The frontman is terrific and a sight for sore eyes.

Night Swim- 2024

night swim

A baseball player, Ray (Wyatt Russell) forced into early retirement moves into a new family home with a water therapy-friendly pool. All is going well until, unavoidably, the pool turns out to be covered in spectral creatures. Bryce McGuire makes a short horror movie that taps into our primal fear of and attraction to water. He gets great performances from Russell and The Banshees of Kerry Condon as the partner who prays it is not her turn to check the chlorine levels.

The Pope's Exorcist: 2023

the Pope's exorcist

The Pope's Exorcist is an American supernatural horror movie from 2023. It was written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos, and it was based on Father Gabriele Amorth's books An Exorcist Tells His Story (1990) and An Exorcist: More Stories (1992). Russell Crowe plays Amorth in the movie. Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero also have parts in the movie.
When Screen Gems bought the rights to Amorth's true story in 2020, filming began that year.

After the director was changed and the story was changed, the movie was shot in Ireland from August to October 2022.

There have been a lot of movies about exorcisms. What makes this one different? It's based on a book by Gabriele Amorth, who was a real-life exorcist.
Amorth, along with five other priests, founded the International Association of Exorcists.

He was known all over the world for his work in demonology and exorcism. Father Amorth did thousands of exorcisms over the course of his career. He became one of the most well-known and controversial people in the Catholic Church in the modern age.
The film has very good special effects.
Another interesting detail is that in this film, the demon (Asmodeus) managed to carry out multiple possessions, he managed to possess the boy (Henry), the girl (Amy) and even the pope.
Interesting detail, the Pope is always considered a holy figure, His Holiness, so if it has been possessed it is because it is not pure or free of sins.

The only detail, which is common to all exorcism films, is that the demons are easily defeated at the end, by the priest, with Christian prayers in Latin. In reality this would not be possible.
Another detail that I didn't like was the film almost trying to clean up the church's image about the dark phase of the Inquisition, attributing the blame to the devil who possessed a bishop.
So, in that sense, they try to give an image of excusing the church for the era of the Inquisition.
But, in short, the film is entertaining.

It's curious, in this type of film the devil always tries to "enter" the church and contaminate it.

But in real life the Church is not a pure institution, it already has the devil inside, it has connections with mafia money and thousands of cases of pedophilia.

Down A Dark Hall- 2018

down a dark hall

Kit (AnnaSophia Robb), a difficult young girl, is sent to the mysterious Blackwood Boarding School when her heated temper becomes too much for her mother to handle. Once she arrives at Blackwood, Kit encounters eccentric headmistress Madame Duret (Uma Thurman) and meets the school’s only other students, four young women also headed down a troubled path. While exploring the labyrinthine corridors of the school, Kit and her classmates discover that Blackwood Manor hides an age-old secret rooted in the paranormal.

Based on the classic gothic YA novel of the same name by Lois Duncan – author of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” – and produced by Stephenie Meyer (author of Twilight, The Host), "DOWN A DARK HALL" is a supernatural thriller directed by Rodrigo Cortés (Buried), from a screenplay by Mike Goldbach and Chris Sparling, and stars AnnaSophia Robb (Soul Surfer, The Carrie Diaries), Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan), Victoria Moroles (Teen Wolf), Noah Silver (The Tribes of Palos Verdes), Taylor Russell (TV’s Falling Skies), Rosie Day (Outlander), and features a truly memorable turn by the iconic Uma Thurman.

The Craft- 1996

The Craft 1996

"The Craft is a cult classic movie that contains paranormal, terror, and magick.

Because of this movie, thousands of teenagers started to be interested in witchcraft.

The Craft is a 1996 American teen supernatural horror film directed by Andrew Fleming, based on a screenplay by Peter Filardi and Fleming. The story is by Filardi. The film stars Robin Tunney, Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True. The story follows four teenage girls from a Los Angeles parochial high school who pursue witchcraft for their own gain and then experience negative repercussions.

There are scenes of the Gothic witch Nancy that are impressive, like when she walks on water and hundreds of killer whales (orcas) appear dead on the beach. Neve Campbell was also an actress in the movies 'Scream.'.

By the year 2020, they had made a second movie to celebrate twenty years. It was named "The Craft: Legacy," but with different actors.

The Craft: Legacy is a soft sequel to the 1996 movie, but it was made by a different director.

The Possession -2012

the possession

There are many movies about possessions and exorcisms, and with "Possession" titles.

But this "The Possession" from 2012 directed by Ole Bornedal is quite good.

It stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Clyde), Kyra Sedgwick (Stephanie), Natasha Calis (Emily), Grant Show, Madison Davenport (Hannah), and Matisyahu.

Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), is divorced. Clyde and his two daughters (Emily and Hannah) spent the weekend getting to know the new house he bought. On the way back, there was a garage fair, a man was selling old things, and there was a cursed wooden box.

Emily asks father Clyde to buy an antique box, unaware that inside the box lives a malicious ancient spirit.  At night, in her room, Emily managed to open the box, take out some old objects, and put a ring on her finger. Day after day, she began to behave differently and become more aggressive. She attacked a classmate fiercely when she tried to take the box away from her.

The movie has some good scenes of possession and poltergeist activity.

Clyde travels to a Hasidic community where he meets Tzadok, a Jewish man willing to help him defeat the Dybbuk spirit and save Emily from becoming completely possessed by the demon.

the possession

Good actors, good acting, good special effects, and a great story.

The Fourth Kind -2009

the fourth kind

The Fourth Kind -2009

This is a ufological thriller starring Mila Jovovich as Dr. Abigail Tyler. Since the 1960s, the small town of Nome in Alaska has seen a disproportionate number of people reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations, the truth has never been found. When newlywidowed psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Jovovich) arrives in the town to interview people affected by the disappearances, she gradually uncovers evidence that points to the possibility of alien abduction. Even more concerning are the accusations of a federal cover-up.

The Fourth Kind is the best and smartest of the various alien and UFO movies I've watched.

Because they were able to combine paranormal activity (spirit possessions) with extraterrestrials and even mythology. A good researcher of Ufology, ancient archeology and sacred scriptures knows that there is a relationship between everything.

The aliens in this film levitate a man on the bed and there is possession.  The aliens voice speaks through him and in Sumerian language.

At a certain point a patient (Abbey) was possessed channeling the alien's voice which seems to be understood as "I am God", but later it is perceived in the translation "I am like a God", this reminds me of the connection with the Anunnaki extraterrestrial gods that the Sumerians contacted. It is a brilliant film in terms of content, story, consensus, and effects.

alien possession

The levitation scene in the movie is much better than those in "Paranormal Activity", "Poltergeist" or "The Exorcist". The film's story has little basis, since in Alaska there have always been hundreds of UFO sightings and abduction cases.

Amityville: The Awakening. 2017

amityville awakening

There are many movies based on the Amityville incident, but I prefer the 2017 "Amityville: The Awakening" because it has a better story, better effects, and Bella Thorne is so sexy.

This great movie was written and directed by Franck Khalfoun.

When some footage from 1976 is found, the case of the haunted house in Amityville is reopened. Belle, the younger sister, and her comatose twin brother move into their mother's house in order to save money for the sick children treatment. But when strange things start to happen, like her brother's miraculous recovery, Belle starts to think that her mother isn't telling her the whole truth about where they live.

By the way, Mckenna Grace (Juliet) acted as a young version of Sabrina on "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina."

Intruders -2011

intruders

"Intruders" is a 2011 supernatural horror film directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and written by Nicolás Casariego and Jaime Marques.. The film features Clive Owen, Carice van Houten, Daniel Brühl, Pilar López de Ayala, Ella Purnell, Izan Corchero, Kerry Fox, and Héctor Alterio. The story is about a man and a woman who are trying to save their kids life from a monster called Hollow Face.

Though no one can see him, Hollow Face hides in the shadows, longing for love but only knowing how to spread fear and hatred.

Hollow Face creeps into the life of John Farrow in England after his 12-year-old daughter is assaulted in their home. In Spain, Hollow Face comes into the life of Luisa and her son Juan after Juan is attacked in their home. As fissures start to open within the family unit, the line between the real and the imaginary blurs. No security measure seems to be able to keep out Hollow Face.

Not to be confused with "The Intruders," a 2015 Canadian horror film directed by Adam Massey and written by Jason Juravic.

Insidious Film series

insidious paranormal movies

"Insidious" is a series of American horror films created by Leigh Whannell.

The first two films focus on a couple who, after their son mysteriously enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for ghosts in an astral plane, are continuously haunted by demons from a forbidden realm known as the Further until they take from the world. The third film, a prequel, focuses on the same psychic who helped the family. This time, she comes to the aid of a young girl who calls out to the dead. The fourth film follows her when her own family becomes haunted. The fifth film follows their son Dalton, who is going to college and is haunted by a presence of the past.

The first four film plots are shown as case files of demonologists, and focus on people who unwillingly make contact with the demonic world, with the fifth centering on a teenage Dalton who goes to college and is haunted by a presence of his past.

Great movies with good special effects and strong consistent paranormal story.

Insidious is a horror movie that is based on previous horror movies like Poltergeist and House On Haunted Hill. Its jump scares are effective because of the creepy soundtrack and the way it's shot and builds tension.

2013- "Insidious: Chapter 2".

2015- "Insidious: Chapter 3".

Paranormal Activity franchise

Paranormal activity

Some horror movies are based on 'found footage', which is processed to look like amateur recording, giving a more realistic feel.

Paranormal activity is not of found footage style, but similar, surveillance cameras at home sometimes capture paranormal activity, poltergeist activity.

'Paranormal Activity' is an American supernatural horror franchise that consists of eight films and additional media. The original film premiered in 2007 and was widely released in 2009. It was created by Oren Peli.

Films based on various families who become haunted by the demon Asmodeus "Tobi" of the Book of Tobit stalk, terrifies and ultimately murders several members of the family and other bystanders. The series uses production cameras set up and used security cameras or other recording devices to present the films as found footage.

Sometimes it's good to watch these films again, they're a classic.

Final Destination franchise

Final destination horror

Final Destination franchise

I love the "Final Destination" franchise because it is a funny horror and the deaths are so creepy. Movies can show us that we cannot trick death or escape from karma.

Everyone dies at some point, and it's a creepy and unthinkable death.

Final Destination is an American horror series that includes five films, two comic books, and nine novels. An unproduced script by Jeffrey Reddick, originally written for The "X-Files" television series, was distributed by New Line Cinema. The first movie was shown in the year 2000

The five films in the series are about a group of people who escape death after one person sees a premonition about a major disaster that is about to happen. Despite avoiding their foretold deaths, the survivors are killed one by one in bizarre accidents caused by an unseen force, creating complicated chains of cause and effect. The series is notable for its use of an antagonist that is not a stereotypical slasher or other physical being, but Death manifested, subtly manipulating circumstances in the environment with a design on claiming anyone who previously escaped their fated demise.

It appears that "Final Destination 6" will soon be coming to HBO Max, over 20 years after the original. Fans are once again anticipating what Death's design has in store this time.

2000- "Final Destination".

2003- "Final Destination 2".

2006- "Final Destination 3".

2009- "The Final Destination".

2011- "Final Destination 5".

Sixth film coming soon.

Drag me to Hell -2009

drag me to hell

Drag me to Hell -2009

One of the best movies I have ever seen.

A séance scene with a type of goat (identical to baphomet) and a surprising ending are  impressive, such also the graveyard scene.

Drag Me to Hell is a 2009 American supernatural horror movie directed and written by Sam Raimi. It stars Alison Lohman ( as Christine Brown), Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dileep Rao, David Paymer, and Adriana Barraza. Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) has a loving boyfriend (Justin Long) and a great job at a Los Angeles bank. But her heavenly life becomes hellish when, in an effort to impress her boss, she denies an old woman's (Sylvia Ganush) request for an extension on her home loan. Christine is cursed in retaliation, threatening her soul with eternal damnation. She wants a psychic to help her break the curse, but the price to save her soul may be more than she can pay.

The woman, Mrs Ganush, violently attacks Christine in the parking lot. She takes a button off Christine's coat and curses it. Later, Christine and her boyfriend Clay visit a fortune teller. They find out that Christine is now haunted by a dark spirit.

Christine tries to ask Ganush for forgiveness, but she discovers that she has died. A sacrifice may help appease the demon, suggests the fortune teller. Christine hesitantly sacrifices her cat kitten. Unfortunately, even that method fails. All hope seems lost when the possibility of banishing the entity via a séance delivers greater failure.

The story of the film is inspired by the British horror film 'Night of the Demon,' such as the similar-shaped demons and the three-day curse theme.

This movie won two awards at the 2009 Scream Awards and the 2010 Saturn Awards.

Hereditary -2018

hereditary paranormal movie

Hereditary -2018.

This is a horror and paranormal movie directed by Ari Aster.

It is important for me to describe the movie without spoilers, as some people may not have seen it yet.

After their grandmother's death, the Graham family began to unravel some things. After the matriarch's departure, she remains a shadow over her living relatives, especially her lonely teenage granddaughter, Charlie, with whom she has always held an unusual fascination. The heirs begin to explore darker places to escape the unfortunate fate that seems to be what fate has in store for them.

Even though there were a lot of good reviews, I didn't find the movie interesting enough. It's too slow for the first half hour. At the end there are many inconsistencies in the field of magick and the paranormal. A cult can invoke "Paimon" wisdom without having to kill a boy and ask that the spirit be reincarnated in that body.

Some scenes are good, scenes where you see his mother climbing walls, very fast, reminds of "Paranormal activity" movies.
